Purpose of this Site

MA Fashion & Textiles

This site is used as a vehicle to document and submit my journey and outputs for the award of a Masters degree in Fashion & Textiles at Nottingham Trent University July 2020. Due to the Coronavirus global pandemic and government rulings, Nottingham Trent University has decided that all submissions for this academic year will be in digital formats in order to conform to the social distancing and lockdown restrictions in place at this time. Although my outputs are intended to be best displayed and viewed in person through a static exhibition format, I have tried my best to capture all my work using digital technologies I have access to within my home. Please enjoy.

"So long as the system of competition in the production and exchange of the means of life goes on, the degradation of the arts will go on; and if that system is to last for ever, then art is doomed, and will surely die; that is to say, civilization will die."

William Morris

Kingfly Tailoring

What You Need to Know

Initially Kingfly Tailoring was created to offer a more personalised mens tailoring experience and service, providing an opportunity for individual clients to co-design with the tailor, putting their stamp, vision and personality on their tailored garments. It was a slow fashion response in an attempt to offer the world a more sustainable and original business model. This degree was an opportunity for me to identify potentially new areas of personalisation within mens tailoring (Focusing on jackets) by exploring jacket construction, materials, craft skills, new technologies and techniques old and new. As I progressed through my MA journey, my research and direction path focused more on the art of storytelling and semantics, resulting in broader range of product outcomes, crossing disciplinary boundaries and challenging design and make practices in order to innovate and move forward.

Ultimately my work has become more about the narrative and journey, than the outcome itself.

Its all about discovering the new, about myself, my work and what I can offer the world.
